The syn1588® technology is compliant with all major PTP profiles namely the default, the power, the telecom profiles and the enterprise profile with the SMPTE ST-2059-2 profile being the most recent complement.

syn1588® PCIe NIC

Oregano Systems syn1588® PCIe NIC is a PCI Express Gbit network interface card with IEEE1588 hardware support. A PC equipped with the syn1588® PCIe NIC receives highly accurate time (<10 ns) independent from network utilization and CPU load without real-time requirements for the node’s operating system.

The syn1588® PCIe NIC acts basically as a standard 10/100/1000 MBit/s Network Interface Card (NIC). Besides the standard function of sending and receiving Ethernet packets, the syn1588® PCIe NIC includes dedicated hardware to implement high accuracy clock synchronization following the IEEE1588 standard.

The syn1588® PCIe NIC includes a full-featured IEEE1588 hardware clock as well as complex timestamping hardware. All time critical elements of an IEEE1588 system are embedded in the syn1588® PCIe NIC thus removing all timing constraints from the software. There are no real-time requirements for the operating system or the software stack. Due to its special structure, the CPU load for the required IEEE1588 stack (e.g. Oregano Systems syn1588® PTP Stack) is negligible.

syn1588® Gbit Switch

Oregano Systems‘ syn1588® Gbit Switch offers the standard 8+1-port 10/100/1000 Mbit/s Ethernet switch functions as well as the IEEE1588-2008 Transparent Clock function. It offers an amazing timestamping accuracy while supporting high messages rates simultaneously on all ports.

The syn1588® Gbit Switch is a standard 8-port 10/100/1000 Mbit/s Ethernet switch enhanced by an IEEE1588-2008 End-To-End Transparent Clock function. The unit is equipped with ruggedized RJ45 connectors suited for industrial applications. The syn1588® Gbit Switch is available in a standard 19″ rack mount case (1 HE).

syn1588® PTP Stack

Oregano Systems‘ syn1588® PTP Stack offers a complete implementation of the protocol stack for the IEEE1588-2008 standard. The syn1588® PTP Stack is a well proven, reliable and portable software. Its outstanding functionality is verified regularly on ISPCS plugfests and SMPTE Interops.

Oregano Systems offers a protocol stack – the syn1588® PTP Stack – which is fully compatible to the IEEE1588 Standard for the Precision Clock Synchronization Protocol. The syn1588® PTP Stack is tested for compatibility in environments with stacks of other proveniences on several IEEE1588 plugfests.

syn1588® Clock_M

The syn1588® Clock_M IP core family provides highly accurate IEEE1588 compliant clock synchronization functions. The syn1588® Clock_M IP cores are suited for direct integration to an Ethernet MAC. Either one or up to 4 network interfaces can be conncected. A large variety of network line speeds are supported. There is an AXI4 Lite CPU interface for communication with the host processor executing the PTP Stack.

The syn1588® Clock_M IP core family offer all functions required to implement a high-accuracy PTP node. The feature-rich architecture allows creating of PTP slave and PTP master nodes. It’s sophisticated hardware clock architecture allow fine-grained clock servo control. All published IEEE1588 standards are supported. 

A typical application example is the syn1588® PCIe NIC. This standard PCIe Ethernet network interface card is made up of a single FPGA that includes the syn1588® Clock_M IP core as well as the Ethernet MAC and the PCIe interface
